John Poteet who came to Virginia on board a ship of Captain Stegge was French….NOT Italian. You can find all the documents in the Virginia archives! This Italian myth has got to stop.
John’s wife was Ann. Their son was Francis who moved to Baltimore. His son John is the one people keep calling Giovanni which there is no proof of.
This John could not write. He signed with an “x”. The document prepared in 1721 that includes “Italion” was not written by him. This is all still a mystery…..so far.
