I am confused on the whole Scottish theory.Why would Peter be from France and his father from England? We know Peter is foreign to England because he had to be naturalized in Maryland. I was under the assumption that we are of French Huguenot descent. The family fled France due to religous persecution to England and later came here. Did Peters father move to Scotland after Peter and his brother moved to America? Also on the origin of the surname Fookett or La Fookett the closest French surname I have found is Fouquet which is a documented Huguenot family. It is pronounced Fookay which sounds like Fugate and spelled like Fookett.Is there any info on Peters father being born in England? I am from John Fugates line who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. his son Noah was the first to spell our name Fugatt which is how my family spells it today
