If you will look at the original Tax listing for the year of 1782 in
washington County you will find that it is NOT the same Alexander Montgomery living there that you are referring to.

From 1782 through 1786 the same man lived there with his father-in-law
Luke Lemare.
James Montgomery also lived next door to Luke Lemare.

they all lived near Little Mocassin Creek branch of Northfork of Holston river.
The 145 acre tract owned by Alexander Montgomery straddled the
Little mocassin Creek. this 145 acre was first owned by Robert Tate.

Now to address my assertion about the family of Jane Montgomery Casey.
You have noted ekert and his writings about the 2 children left at
Boonesboro.

Here is what I have found.
Kentucky Land Records have a Commissioner Certificate for both
a Settlement Cert of 400 acres and a Preemption Cert for 1000 acres
for a Settlement and growing a crop in Kentucky in 1777 by Alexander
Montgomery. These Certificates were proved before the Virginia Land
Commissionerswhom were setting at Harrodsburg in January 1780.

Those named Montgomery whom were presented these certificates were:

William Montgomery Sr. whom settled 1776.
William Montgomery Jr. whom settled in summer 1779.
William Montgomery Jr. Heir-at-law of Alexander Montgomery deceased.
settlement made 1777.
John Montgomery settlement made 1777.
(note: the above 4 names all signed in january 1780)

In March 1780, William Sr, along with his son John and his infant son were
killed by indians.

When mark Twain Grandmother died, it was said that she had said that
she had lost five family members to the indians.
1. was a neice, daughter of Molly Montgomery Russel named Flora.
2. was their fahter William Montgomery Sr.
3. was John Montgomery.
4. was the infant son of John and wife Margaret Edmondson Montgomery.
5.was Alexander Montgomery whom died in September 1778.

Now about the two children left at Boonesboro, please find these:
William Montgomery and Flora Montgomery, both born in the
1772-1777 time frame.

Jane Montgomery, wife of William Sr. and mother of William Jr., Alexander,
John, ann, Molly, Robert, Thomas and others held the Marriage Bond in
Lincoln county, Kentucky when Flora was married.
The William son of Alexander and brother of Flora is a difficult person to
trace, but think he was married to the Crow family? (uncertain about William)
