Kay,
I have had the same thoughts about the relationship between William Sr.,
and John, but, both are mentioned as sons of Alexander of Buck Creek
because of the 1752 lands that Alexander conveyed to son William and the
the next day Alexander conveyed the other lands to son John.
This is what has me confused:
William Sr. went to Kentucky and raised a crop of corn in 1776.
This is documented in the Kentucky records.
William Sr. received a 400 acre settlement and then another Certificate for
a 1000 acre Preemption.
Why did William Sr.’s, brother John not have the same?
John Montgomery whom left his LW&T dated 1784 in Amherst County
had the wife named Martha Miller.
This John Montgomery returned to Amherst County between 1777 and 1780.
His son William whom died in Marion County, Missouri in 1832 said that he
was in the Cabell Regiment from Amherst County, but before that he was
in the Morgan Regiment.
This Morgan Regiment consisted of about 1000 men and was marched 600
miles to meet the army that was to go north.
Battles of Saratoga and such are included with a military history of Daniel
Morgan.
In 1784 John Montgomery died, leaving his lands on South fork of Holston
river to son Alexander if Alex paid sister Annie 15 pounds, and same for
son William if William paid son Alexander 15 pounds.
Annie Montgomery is reflected in an 1805 land document in Lincoln County
Kentucky as Anne Montgomery Huston wife of Nathaniel Huston.
Annie is listed with brothers Nathaniel, John, James, and sister Mary.
This William, brother of Nathaniel and Annie is also written in the Trabue
book as the same whom married his cousin Betsy Montgomery; daughter
of William Sr. and Jane his wife.
