Hello Kay and Mike, After reading your posts, wonder if you can shed some light on my quest…….trying to connect men who fought at the “Battle of King’s Mountain” on 10/8/1780 in South Carolina to men who ended up living in Kentucky. Specially the area of Green, Barren & Adair County, KY. A lot of the men who served in this battle were called Mountain Men of Virginia. There are several men who served who appear to later be in in KY. Where any of your relatives in this battle? There were several Montgomery men who fought at this battle; Alexander, James, Capt. James, John, Richard, Robert and Thomas Montgomery. In addition, a John Snoddy and a Capt. John Snoddy, Major James Porter, John, Mitchell and William Porter. Joseph, Wm and James Logan, Henry and John Skaggs…….AND a Richard Perry. I am aware there was a Wm Montgomery (Sr.) who’s 425 acres of land in Lincoln Co., KY extended up to Richard Perry’s 400 acres on the North Fork of Casey’s Creek. This Richard Perry acquired his Certificate of Settlement on March 12, 1782. There was also a Richard Perry who is on the list of Lincoln County, KY Militia of January 1783 at the Falls of Ohio. Cyrus Edwards wrote “The Edwards Family of Barren Co., Ky” in 1924 and tells tales from his Grandfather…. of a Richard Perry and George Middleton who in the Spring of 1782 when approaching the Big Blue Springs (south of present Hiseville and Knob Lick) Kentucky, met a party of Indians who had a packhorse with settler’s equipment…..this is the story of the Murder of Fenchman’s Knob and includes the (famous KY) Longhunter Henry Skagg’s. In 1803, Skagg’s refer’s to this Richard Perry as an “old trapper”. I believe that this Richard Perry is the father or relative of my 4th ggf Richard Ankrum Perry (1775;NC-1864;IN) who was married in Green Co., KY 11/4/1803 to Rebecca Pierce, daughter of William Pierce and Ann Tunstall of VA and Barren Co., Ky. My Richard Ankrum Perry and my John Thompson were neighbors and witness’s for a Lawrence Angel, in his Rev. War Pension Application in 1832 in Johnson County, Indiana. Angle stated that Richard’s father served with him, however did not provide the name of Richard’s father. Thus, I am trying to connect if the Montgomery’s, Snoddy’s, Porter’s and Logan’s…. the families that you have mentioned are the same men/families that served at the “Battle of King’s Mountain”. Any assistance to this matter is most appreicated. Thank you!
