Kay,
The Alexander Montgomery whom purchased the Military warrants on or near Russell Creek in what now is Russell Co. Ky., was the same whom died 184 in Fayette County. This Alexander was a court official in Washington Co. Va. from 1777 through about 1795. The military lands that he purchased were the Virginia Military lands granted to the Talliferro brothers whom were at the siege of Boonesborough in 1777.
Some things we must keep in mind about the Alexander Montgomery whom died in Sept. 1778.
He had two children when he died. This alone makes him NOT the Alexander Montgomery whom married Martha (Walker?).
The 50 acres of land was filed for, but then were withdrawn….so no, that still does not make him NOT the same that died in 1778, but does relay that this lands were filled in his name on behalf of his son, known as, William Montgomery Jr.
The 500 acre tract was granted to Alexander Montgomery, but he was the son of John Montgomery. He was the same Alexander that purchased the lands from the Talliferro brothers.
So, when Allen Ekert wrote his book, basing it on the Journals of Daniel Boone
Ekert was on the money about the Alexander Montgomery whom he wrote about, and that this alexander Montgomery was the son of William Sr. and Jane his wife.
All Best
