Dear Carie,
I realize that there isn’t much about Nancy on my blog, she is aka Big Nancy White Wing Cornstalk d/o Stout Man Wneypuechsika CORNSTALK (1742 – 1832) and Elizabeth Catherine See (1754 – 1827) did abandon her family Elijah Adkins (1764-1840) son of Parker Vincent Adkins (1720 – 1792) and Mary Polly Alexander Fry (Jones) (1730 – 1777) Granted the family does not recognize the (Jones) its is merely an excerpt name from the book written by Don Greene and I won’t dispute it here, nor give it merit. Take it as it is offered, only as an alternative. Nothing is written in stone.
Nancy ran off with Tecumseh abandoning Elijah and their sons, she left Little Nancy Adkins with the Cornstalk family. Elijah then moved away and changed the spelling of his last name to Atkins. Some have reverted it back to Adkins.
Nancy was Chalakatha-Mekoche-Shawano-Chalaka-Powhatan-Metis.
Elijah Adkins 1764-1840 3/4 Shawano-Hopia-Metis
Parker Adkins (1720-1792) 1/2 Shawano-Metis
s/o William & Elizabeth Parker Adkins
I’m not sure where you’re going with Jesse Adkins here, but this Elijah Adkins/Parker line is tracked in the Don Greene book should you decide to obtain a copy and read it, or just sign in at Amazon and skim it or not. Your choice.
I’m sure I didn’t help much here, but its a start, keep up the hunt.
I don’t cover her much on the blog since I’m not sure if I’m breaking any copyright laws, but as I’ve said before, how can we be – when it’s our family?! It’s our history – our heritage.
Thanks as always and Welcome to the Family,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf
