Peggie is my 4x great grandmother. I have been trying for 17 years to solve the mystery of her last name. Is it truly her maiden name, meaning all of the children were illegitimate? Was she married to a Montgomery before she shacked up with James Howard (who is, by the way, listed as the father of my 3x great grandfather Thomas Montgomery’s death certificate)? Has anyone located her death certificate to verify her father’s name?
