Hello all! My lineage is through Elizabeth See Shoemaker. I am trying to fill in the gaps after she married Young Peter Cornstalk,,,why were the Cornstalks all named Peter? Was young Peter Cornstalk and Peter Shoemaker the same person? My g.grandmother was Emma Ev Shoemaker Casto. I wish she was still living to help me fill in the gaps. Any info is greatly appreciated. You can message me on facebook or email me at: linsig10@yahoo.com. peace and love to all. Thanks, Linda Sigman

Please write to me at dawyck@diodecom.net and I will send you documented information that should answer your questions. This is my line as well, which I have been researching since 2005.

Hi, everyone! I’m helping a friend, actually the cousin of my nephew’s wife, to trace her ancestry, and she and I have hit numerous stonewalls – so what’s new? Sally is the great granddaughter of Tennessee Vaughn Adkins, b 1859, in either Wayne County, West Virginia or Boyd County, Kentucky, depending on the family stories or later documents. Tennessee was married to William St Elmo Goings in 1871. She was the daughter of John Adkins and Mollie Vaughn, both born in Virginia according to later documents. The family also has ties to the Welsh Vaughn (Vaughan) family whose descendants lived in Ashland, Kentucky. We have not been able to locate anything definitive on Tennessee’s early years and nothing on Mollie and John. Also, Tennessee did go to Tulsa, Oklahoma with her family and she died there in January, 1930. On Ancestry and Familysearch.org I have gone through every birth, marriage, and death record I could find for Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky and have come up empty.
Through another line, Mollie Vaughn was somehow related to the line of William Patrick Vaughn and Fereby Benton. Handwritten notes refer to their cousins Rebecca Belle and Cassia Vaughn who were daughters of James E and Susannah Wilson Vaughn.
My apologies that this is so long, but I am hoping that someone in this vast Adkins network may see this and recognize the names and get back to me with any information you may have.
Thank you!

I’m just beginning my research into my Adkins ancestors and am kindly asking for assistance from the Adkins family researchers–I am looking for documentation to support that Littleberry Adkins was the son of Parker Vincent Adkins and that Vicy (Vicie) Adkins Napier was the daughter of Littleberry Adkins (will, family bible, book?). Thank you in advance for your help!

My goodness, just a quick scan trough these post tell me there are some serious researchers here.
I have recently found an ancestor named Susan (Rainey) Parsley. Susan is reported to be the daughter of Serena (Tecumseh) and William Rainey. Supposedly William and Serena married in the Indian tradition. Which I am guessing means no one has a record?
Serena would be the daughter of Tecumseh and Nancy Cornstalk.
I have found this repeated many times on the internet but I have not seen anyone posting proof. Is there someone here that would know where that proof could be located?
I do find this interesting as it is looking like this is my husband’s direct line. But I also do not like speculating on the family tree.
Thank you
Diana

Brian- I am a direct descendant of Oseola Adkins (born around 1845 in Sussex Virginia). He is the son of Britton Adkins and Martha Reed. Given the time and place of his birth we believe he would have been part of the Nottoway tribe. My grandmother was raised by Oseola and had long believed (based on oral tradition) that he was descended from a line of tribal chiefs. There is a fairly famous picture of him entitled “The Watering Place” that shows him in full headdress with his horse. You may have seen it in Native American museum exhibits. For decades no one has even known who it is. Have you taken any ancestry DNA test? We hope to figure out the connection of our lineage to other Adkins lines.

Hello,
I believe that Francis Fugate married to Humphry Landsale cannot be the father to Mary Martin as this Francis is female. There is a marriage recorded in the Nottinghamshire Parish Registers of 1690 which says:
Humphry Lansdale & Francis Martin. The man is always mentioned at first in this registers.
But there is another Francis Martin of Somerset County, Maryland who married Mary Roach (born 1668/9) 1683. Source is the book “Old Somerset on the eastern shore of Maryland” by Clayton Torrence. Maybe this could be the father of Mary.
I did not check the original records. Please do this yourself to be sure of the dates.

I just recently found out that my son’s family tree on his father’s side may be descended from Mary Blue Sky Cornstalk. I am trying to prove it. Supposedly it descends down to him through the Thacker surname in his tree. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also my son’s DNA test did not show any Indian in his genes yet he is descended from the Thacker/Adkins lines and the DNA connected him to people with those names. Any advice? My email is Laura1853@aol.com
Thanks!

Hello, My name is Amanda Reed. I also have the Reed book from Magoffin County. Nice to see I have so many distant relatives. I also am curious where the Cherokee lineage comes from. Apparently, my grandfather, Henry Reed, had Cherokee blood. I also have Cherokee blood from my mother’s side. This has always been a topic that has greatly interested me. I will have to bring the books back out to see exactly who my grandfather is descended from.

I am a descendant of John L. Adkins and Elizabeth Bradby or Eliza Bradby of Charles City, VA. John was born 1788 and died 9/1/1856; Mary was born 1791 and died 1850. They had at least 10 children and possibly 12. Their daughter, Harriet Ann Adkins is my 2nd great grandmother and their son William Adkins is my 3rd great grandfather. We cannot find any information on Elizabeth Bradby aka Eliza Bradby or if they are the same as M. Elizabeth Bradby who died in Logan, West Virginia. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
