Howdy Sheila….. yep, that’s a Southern thing depending on where you’re at.
This is my version that Mamaw made for us kids when Mom& Dad not around. I’m sure you can modify the recipe to suit your taste buds.
Mamaw’s Southern style Chocolate gravy:
1/4 cup cocoa
3 tablespoons flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups milk (whole)
1 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions:
1:Whisk together the cocoa, flour, and sugar until there are no lumps.
2: Add the milk and whisk until well incorporated.
3: Add mixture to saucepan and cook over medium heat stirring frequently until mixture is a thick gravy like consistency.
4:Take off heat and add vanilla and butter and stir until incorporated.
5:Serve immediately over hot steaming biscuits! Don’t forget to butter your biscuits before pouring the gravy if you want extra flavor. And…. whipped cream on top.
Cheers,
