I like to use YDNA results when it is possible. Since I am not privy to the Montgomery familytreedna info, I do not know whether a sampling from Magoffin County, Kentucky, or an adjacent county was taken. If I remember correctly there were 3 samples from Alexander(1705-1768) descendants and they were of the I haplogroup and matched.
This haplogroup is different from the immigrant ancestor currently accepted who had a J haplogroup. These men are not related and I am curious as to the background of Alexander of Orange County, North Carolina, since John Montgomery’s descendants’ YDNA should match his.
I guess that will have to wait.
