Sheila,
I, too, am very much into family history and genealogy. If I understand what and how you have listed the above genealogy, William Robinson son of David Robinson is my 2nd Great Grand Uncle. He is the brother to Berry Hensley Robertson who is my 2nd Great Grandfather.
You stated in #14 your husband, Anthony, descends from William. You also mentioned living in Miamisburg, Ohio. There are many Berry Hensley Robertson descendants living just south of you in the Hamilton area. I think possibly at least one male cousin who lives in the area and is also very into genealogy would consent to dna testing.
Now, my question. You mention William’s mother being Nancy Carter based upon the Kentucky Death Records, 1852-1953 listing Nancy Carter. With William only being about 7 years old when David married Nancy Carter in about 1835 possibly he grew up thinking of her as his mother and thus it was listed in his death records.
I based this upon the following information found in the book “The Arvins and The Robertsons of Estill County, Kentucky”, by Opal Dean Arvin.
“David was married twice. First to an Indian girl in North Carolina. Her name is not known.”
“It is family legend that she was a full Cherokee Indian. She and David had at least five boys and one girl. They were named: Honsefer, Berry, Elijah, William and James. I am not sure about the name of the daughter. There is some irregularity in the ages of the births which means that here could have been other children who did not live. The Indian Mother of these children died about, 1833 or 1834 in North Carolina.”
“David moved his family from Buncombe County to Clay County, Kentucky about the year 1835. At the time of this move he had five boys. These were the children of his Indian wife.”
“David was married the second time about 1835 to Nancy Carter who accompanied him on the move to Kentucky. Nancy and David had five children, all born in Kentucky. His older boys, those with the Indian Mother, soon married and left home.”
I do know first hand there are many errors in the above mentioned book, including some in my immediate family. However, I have found the book to be most helpful in the Robertson line.
I would greatly appreciate sharing information with you on the Robertson/Robinson family.
