Chiming in after a long time off.
William Montgomery Sr. has a claim to have married Jane Patterson. They are first found on RECORD when mentioned on a 1769 Land sale to Lee Harris in Amherst Co. Va.
RECORDS show that this land had been conveyed to him by Alexander Montgomery in February 1752. The person conveying this land was named Alexander Montgomery.
This Alexander Montgomery conveyed land to John Montgomery the very next day.
Both pieces of land lay on Buck Creek branch of Rockfish river.
This land was first purchased in 1745 by Alexander Montgomery from William Gooch.
This William Montgomery Sr. had a first born son named Alexander and it was he that died in Sept. 1778 according to the journals of Daniel Boone. In this Boones record he says this Alexander had sandy blonde hair.
There is also a record that tells of this William Montgomery Sr. as having a son named William Jr. and that he was sometimes referred to as Black Billy to differentiate him from the other men known as William Montgomery.
The book by Stephen Ekert was mostly drawn from information found written in the Journals of Daniel Boone.
So maybe Boone was not always correct?
I would think that if someone was killed on my watch that I would and could remember his or her name from that moment on?
On another tangent, I did get a look at the names of the first Kentuckians that are listed on the monument in Frankfort Kentucky and find the names of Alexander Montgomery and John Montgomery.
Then after searching these a bit I find that they are referring to John Montgomery of the Clarksville area. This John came to the Falls of the Ohio
in 1778 from Virginia. He was a Captain of Militia. About Dec. 1778 he was given a promotion to Lt. Col. John Montgomery. He was granted over 6000 acres of land and was killed by indian in Nov. 1794.
I never did get to search anymore about this Alexander Montgomery that is found on this monument?
