Comment on Robertson by Sheila

Dear Gale,

I had written a huge comment here, but have deleted it. To be honest, I simply don’t want to be involved in the Native Indian card controversy. Its caused a lot of friction between friends and I don’t want to go there. My advise to you is to go to a pow-wow and talk to the local sub-chief’s. See if you can get an interview with the chief; see if they can help you. Tell them what you have, you’ll need to provide some kind of link or know who your ancestor was or who’s clan they’d belong. That’s as far as I can go with the advise on the family. If you’re not looking for a card, just ask to have them if they’d be willing to help you do your genealogy.

I apologize that I cannot be any help in the area. Good luck in your endeavors.

As for the Robertson/Robinson families: I’m still trying to figure out how two people are the same person, with two different names myself. Nig married his first wives granddaughter, but Hester her mother name was Celthia Dees not Sarah “Sallie” Hazelwood. I’ve been working on that one for several years. Not even sure how its possible at this point, but the family knows it to be a fact so the evidence is there somewhere, just have to look harder. Leave no stone unturned.

That’s what happened to me a few weeks ago, when I bought a book, that was written in the 70′s by the local & highly respected history teacher (now deceased) and the husband of a member of the family. Treading lightly here is an understatement.

I will have to soon completely revise my entire family line, evaluating everything he had said in his book, I’ve spent every waking minute trying to prove or disprove his findings. He had interviewed several family members of each established family in Morgan County. Since my App was an early founder of Elkfork, his family included. It was only a few short paragraphs, but enough to shed a lot of doubt on what we have believed to be true. The author being married to his 5x Great-Granddaughter. Looking at everything they had available at the time from an historical perspective. I have proved that much of his writing is accurate. Just not happy with the gaping holes it leaves.

Its always a challenge and starting over is always the best way to deal with a challenge, so that’s what I’m doing. Happy hunting!

Good luck and best wishes…

As always,
Sheila Jean Adkins Metcalf
